The Madras Chamber in partnership with the Center of Excellence in Urban Transport, at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, reputed for its academic research is organizing a meeting on “Dissemination Workshop on Implementation Roadmap for Sustainable Urban Freight Mobility in Chennai'' on Wednesday, 11^th March, 2020 between 10:30 a.m. and  1.30p.m at Hotel Raintree, Nandanam ,Anna Salai, Chennai .

 

In the first phase of this Project on Green Freight, we have had preliminary discussions with the stakeholders including government, industry and academia to discuss the various solutions to positively impact city logistics towards reducing congestion and emissions. A comprehensive freight planning framework for Chennai was prepared by IITM and based on the inputs and suggestions received from stakeholders, the scope and objectives for the next phase of the project was decided. 

 

In the second phase, the implementation roadmap for sustainable urban freight mobility project has been prepared along with the urban freight consolidation app developed for this purpose which can be used for consolidating truck trips leading to a reduction in congestion and improvement in air quality. The app will be released at the workshop. 

 

The workshop is to share the experiences of the project “Implementation Roadmap for Sustainable Urban Freight Mobility in Chennai '' sponsored by Shakthi Sustainable Energy Foundation, Delhi is organized on 11^th March 2020. The study through surveys, field experiments and interviews provided a broad understanding of issues related to the consolidation of urban freight, provision for freight parking vehicles, adoption of electric vehicles for intra-city trips, and optimization of freight vehicle routes. This meeting would provide a great opportunity to discuss various solutions to positively impact city logistics in Chennai towards reducing congestion, emissions and to make the freight industry sustainable.
