On the occasion of the International Men’s Day, the Women Business Council of the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a special interactive session on the topic of “Partners in Progress” on a virtual platform.
The guest speaker was Mr Ravi Raman, Global Delivery Head, State Street HCL Services Pvt Ltd in conversation with Ms Subhasri Sriram, Joint Managing Director, Shriram Capital Pvt Ltd. A conversation started to understand the importance of diversity, inclusion, gender parity and celebrating differences together. Speaking on the event, Mr Ravi Raman said, “Inclusion is about having space in your mind to accommodate another person. It is about taking pride that you have a reflection of society that believes in inclusion and not something that is done for a day and forgotten.”
The session covered on topics of gender parity, wage parity, need to remove bias based on gender and orientation and about the approach to introducing a more inclusive environment in a workplace. The speaker gave actionable points that everyone can apply which are creating role models irrespective of gender and those which are based on skills and achievements. Grooming the idea of inclusion to work with all colleagues irrespective of their gender. Success should not be celebrated according to the gender but in tune with the work accomplished.
Ms Subhasri Sriram concluded the session noting, “The unconscious bias and barriers can only be crossed when everyone works together without the barriers of gender.”
