EV30@30 Envisioning Sustainable Electric Vehicle Adoption

The Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in association with the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, hosted a roundtable discussion titled “EV30@30: Envisioning Sustainable Electric Vehicle Adoption.” The event featured Ms. Alessandra Carreon, Commissioner of the Michigan Public Service Commission, U.S., as the main speaker.

Mr. T.R. Kesavan, President of the Madras Chamber, opened the session with an insightful discussion on the current trends in the electric vehicle (EV) industry and the significant progress in Tamil Nadu. He emphasized the importance of enhancing infrastructure to promote higher EV adoption and urged the government to prioritize this crucial component for the industry’s continued growth and success.

Mr. Vishnu Venugopalan IAS, MD & CEO of Guidance, delivered the keynote address, outlining Tamil Nadu’s comprehensive strategy for sustainable EV adoption, battery circularity, and fostering a robust EV ecosystem. He highlighted the State’s dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility.

Mr. Chris Hodges, Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai, expressed his interest in exploring partnerships with the Indian diaspora to participate in skill development and knowledge sharing in the EV space.

Ms. Alessandra Carreon shared her experience in setting up EV infrastructure in Michigan, detailing the planning and execution of EV infrastructure models and the valuable learnings from the process.

The discussion was well-attended by business leaders and academia with a vested interest in the future of electric vehicles
